My Family

history would require lot more pages and words that I can possibly write in here . In-fact that is one of my current "private" projects of somehow using the this web site as permanent repository for storing the family tree. My immediate family consists of my parents and an elder sister. My parents are currently in New Delhi soon moving to Kanpur, and sister, Aradhana, is married and settled in Jaipur with her husband Mr.Ajay Kaul.

My Grandmother (Paternal) Mrs. Kamla Razdan (Dar).
I never met her , as she died of cancer a few years before I was born. From what I have been told and remember, she was the inspector of schools in Kanpur. A highly educated and forward looking woman of her time, she was one first few women in Kanpur to drive a car. She  was always helping people in need and often helped poor students. All through my life I have met people , who for years after her death have helped and served our family in Kanpur, solely out of their regard for my grandmother. I can only imagine the ways that she must have touched the lives of these grateful people and regret to have never known her.

My Grandfather (Paternal) Mr. Brijendra Nath Razdan.
Born in 1911 He moved from Lahore to finally retire in Kanpur ( or Cawnpore as it was then known), India.  Biji bhai was a jolly man , nobody was safe from his sarcasm which was always laden with a sense of humour and almost always love. For most his life , that I remember, he was devoted to helping the poor. He always dressed in white cotton and ran a free pyayu ( a place for drinking water) in the summer months.

My Grandmother (Maternal) Mrs. Chandrakala Wanchoo.
Born in Jammu, a deeply religious woman, with an amazing strength and energy.  The regularity and simple nature of her life is an example for the entire family.

My Grandfather (Maternal) Mr. Bishen Nath Wanchoo.
Born in 1913 - Died Feb 2000, He also moved from Lahore to New Delhi shortly before the partition of British India. He retired as the Deputy Director of Industries in the Delhi administration. Unlike my paternal grandfather, he was a quiet man, content with simple desires in life. He undertook and completed the task of writing the name  "Ram"  , a hundred thousand ( one lakh ) times. He deeply loved his country and took a keen interest in all matters of current politics.

My Father.  Air Vice Marshal Kapil Razdan.
Born 11 Feb. 1943 at Kanpur , he retired from the Indian Air Force in Feb 2001. A son's love for his father is universal but for me my father is also a role model. His love for honesty, truth and an amazing ability to provide a comforting warmth to all around him, has and will always make me look up to him .

My Mother  Mrs. Chandni Razdan.
Born 2 August 1948 at New Delhi, India she is the constant source of strength in our house. She truly makes our house a home. Even in her temper there is love and concern for all. Her unshakable faith and devotion to God , is the principal reason for whatever little lingering  faith I have in the good intent of the all religions.
